OZNAMENI_CESKA_MINCOVNAMinting of the Bishopric of Olomouc
On 5 January 1608, the Bishop of Olomouc, František Cardinal Ditrichštejn (1599-1636), received a privilege from Emperor Rudolf II recognizing the coinage rights of the bishops of Olomouc. This right is derived from documents confirming the minting of the bishops of Olomouc in the 11th and 12th centuries at the mint in Podivín. František Ditrichštejn began minting coins in the newly established bishop's mint in Kroměříž, but during the time of the Estates' Revolt and the following wars he minted coins in Olomouc and Brno. The bishop's thaler bears a beautifully executed figure of St. Wenceslas as the patron saint of the Olomouc bishopric on its obverse. On the reverse side there are three emblems of František Cardinal Ditrichštejn connected by the upper ends.
