A tribute to historic mints

A replica of the Kromeriz thaler from 1683, based on the original coin, is struck from a troy ounce of pure silver. It represents a typical exceptionally ornate and visually impressive Baroque representative coin. The obverse features a bust of the issuer from the right in a detailed bishop's gown. The reverse side bears an intricate heraldic decoration, the base of which is a quartered heart-shaped shield with the coat of arms of the Olomouc bishopric, on the centre of which the crowned family coat of arms of the Liechtenstein family is placed as a so-called heart-shield. Above this coat of arms are the symbols of the ecclesiastical and secular power of the bishops of Olomouc, i.e. the bishop's mitre and scepter (left side) and the princely crown and sword (right side). Between the mitre and the crown the year '1683' is placed, modified by an overprint from the original '1671'. Below the shield, encircled by an ornamental band with ripples, the lower edge of the coin bears the mark of the Kromeriz mint, then operated by the bishop's administration: two spikes from the bishop's coat of arms in a rectangular cartouche.

The Latin copy contains the name and rich titling of the publisher with the use of many abbreviations. A ligature, less common on coins, but quite common in contemporary Latin, was also used, appearing as a small nine ('9'). In this position, it replaced the Latin ending 'us' after the first name. The description begins at the upper edge of the obverse and passes to the reverse, so it should be read as a whole as follows: CAROL[VS] D[EI] . G[RATIA] . EP[ISCOP]VS . OLOMVCENSIS . DVX . S[ACRI] . R[OMANI] . I[MPERII] . PRINCEPS . REG[IA] . CAP[ELLA] . BOHE[MIA] . E[T] . DE . LIECHTENSTAIN . COM[ES] . This copy may be loosely translated into English as follows.
