We offer this coin in two grades:
On the reverse side of the bicentenary are portraits of the issuers of the Jáchymov thalers in circles, Count Štěpán Schlik on the left and King Ludvík Jagiellon on the right. Around the perimeter of the coin is an incomplete pearl. At the upper edge of the coin are the years '1520-2020'. The text 'JACHYMOVSKÉ TOLARY' is placed at the lower edge of the coin. The initials of the author of the coin, Veronika Adamcova, which are formed by the composition of the letters "V" and "A", are placed below the text "TOLARIES".
On the obverse side of the coin, the composition of the reverse side is preserved. The obverse and reverse of the Jáchymov thaler without the year are depicted in the centre of the coin field. There is an incomplete pearl around the perimeter of the coin. The denomination with the abbreviation of the monetary unit '200 CZK' is located at the upper edge of the coin. The text 'CZECH REPUBLIC' is placed at the lower edge of the coin and below it is the Czech Mint mark consisting of the letters 'Č' and 'M'.
Jáchymov tolar
The Jáchymov tolar (German: Joachimstaler) is the name of historical silver coins minted in Jáchymov between 1519 and 1528.
On the front side we can see St. Jáchym with the Šlikov coat of arms and the inscription St. Jáchym. Around the perimeter of the coin we read the inscription: ARMA=DUOB=SLICOUV=STEFANI=ET=BRATR=COMITU=D=BASAIA - Coin of the Lords of Slick Stephen and the Brothers of the Counts of Bassano (Arma Dominorum Slickorum Stephani et Fratrum Comitum de Bassano). On the reverse side of the Tolar we see the Bohemian Royal Lion and the inscription LUDOVICUS-PRIM-D-GRACIA-REX-BOE = Louis the First by God's Grace King of Bohemia. The name of the monarch changed, of course. The model of the Jáchymov thaler was a Saxon coin called Klappmützentaler in German. The Jáchymov thaler corresponded to it both in weight and purity. However, in contrast to it, the Jáchymov thalers bore the following year numbers: 1520, 1525, 1526, 1527 and 1528.
The minting of the Jáchymov thaler was initiated by the Šlik family, who controlled silver mining in Jáchymov. The minting was officially authorised by the Bohemian Provincial Assembly by its decision of 9 January 1520. It allowed them to mint "larger grosz in the value of rhine gold coins, their halves and quarters". The coins were minted at the Royal Mint in Jáchymov. However, according to several sources (the Jáchymov theologian and Latin teacher Johannes Mathesius, Georgius Agricola, Johannes Miesel), the thalers were minted as early as 1519. Before the official permission was granted, they were probably minted in the cellars of the Šlikov castle south-west of Jáchymov. From 1526, the Jáchymov thalers were minted in another mint, probably in Horní Slavkov. It can be estimated that a total of about 1.3 million Jáchymov thalers were minted. Minting was stopped in the spring of 1528 by order of Emperor Ferdinand I.
Later, the names of other coins and currencies - tolars and dollars - were derived from the name of the Jáchymov tolar.
Each silver coin in the Standard design is placed in a protective plastic capsule along with a certificate of authenticity from the CNB. The dark blue etui is included only in the Proof version.
