Perth Mint - Platypus
The Perth Mint's platinum investment coins, some of the most popular investment coins in the world, have been minted since 1988 with a koala motif. In 2011, however, the Perth Mint decided to mint another platinum coin with the motif of the Australian mammal, the platypus. These coins are minted annually from the purest 99.95% platinum weighing 1oz (31.1g) in a limited mintage of only 30,000 pieces for the entire world.
Platinum investment coins bear the image of a platypus in water on the reverse. The motif is accompanied by the inscriptions "AUSTRALIAN PLATYPUS", "PLATINUM", year of issue, weight and purity.
The obverse depicts a portrait of Queen Elizabeth II by Ian-Rank Broadley with the inscriptions "ELIZABETH II", "AUSTRALIA" and face value. The coins have the status of Australian legal tender.
