In 2018, The Royal Mint issues the first Britannia platinum investment coin minted in 1 ounce of the purest 99.95% platinum. Alongside the popular Britannia gold and silver investment coins, this coin offers a new opportunity to diversify your investments.
The reverse side features a female personification of Britannia. The classical depiction of Britannia in flowing robes atop a cliff with trident and shield was created by sculptor Philip Nathan. The cymbals around the circumference represent unity. The rim of the coin gives the inscription 'BRITANNIA', the year of issue and details of the purity and weight of the metal.
The obverse of the coin bears a portrait of Queen Elizabeth II with the initials of the artist. By 2015, the likeness is by Ian Rank-Brodley, which has been replaced by a fifth and definitive portrait by Jody Clark. The description states "ELIZABETH - II - D - G", "REG - FID - DEF".
