Series "Ounce of Art" - Rembrandt - Britania, Libertad, Liberty
The first set of silver, partially gilded with 24 carat gold and beautifully coloured, coins from the "Ounce of Art" series, issued by the UK, Mexico and the USA in 2015, each weighing 31.1 g (1 Oz) of the purest 99.9% silver, is dedicated to Rembrandt van Rijn.
The set consists of the precious Britania, Mexico Libertad and Liberty coins, with the reverse of each coin coloured using a special process that faithfully replicates Rembrandt's original painting style, characterised by a mysterious play of light and shadow. Rembrandt Harmenszoon van Rijn (1606 - 1669) was a Dutch painter, draughtsman, printmaker and engraver. He is considered one of the finest painters and printmakers in Western art. The period of his work falls in the so-called Dutch Golden Age, the heyday of Dutch society and culture in the 17th century. He became famous during his lifetime and was soon considered the greatest Dutch painter.
Britannia
The coin depicts on its reverse a woman wearing a helmet with a trident in one hand and a shield with a branch in the other, symbolizing Great Britain. The inscriptions around the edge of the coin inform about its name "BRITANNIA", year of issue "2015", weight "1 Oz", fineness ".999 FINE SILVER" and everything is completed by the signature "REMBRANDT". Britannie was created by the renowned sculptor Philip Natha. The obverse features the traditional portrait of Queen Elizabeth II by Ian Rank-Brodley with the inscriptions "ELIZABETH'II'D'G", "REG'FID'DEF", the denomination "2 POUNDS" and the initials of the coin's designer "IRB".
Libertad
The reverse side of the coin depicts an angel, i.e. the Goddess of Victory with outstretched wings - a symbol of Mexican independence since the Spanish colonization in 1821. In the background are two volcanoes, Iztaccíhuatl and Popocatépetl. The weight "1 ONZA", the fineness "PLATA PURA LEY .999" and the year of issue "2015" are depicted above the angel, next to which Rembrandt's signature is also depicted. The obverse of the coin features the emblem of Mexico, which depicts an eagle hunting a snake. The inscription above the emblem reads 'ESTADOS UNIDOS MEXICANOS'.
Liberty
The reverse of the coin bears the symbol of the USA, a coloured design of Liberty (Freedom) walking by Adolph A. Weinman, which dates back to 1916. Liberty walks confidently towards the sunrise, wrapped in the American flag of stars and stripes. In her left hand she holds sprigs of laurel and oak, symbols of civic and military glory. The scenery is accompanied by the inscriptions 'LIBERTY', 'IN GOD WE TRUST' and 'REMBRANDT'. The face of the coin depicts the heraldic eagle, which is the symbol of the USA, with 13 stars above its head, symbolizing the 13 colonies founded by the United States of America in 1776. The inscriptions give details of the issuer "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA", the fineness "1 Oz FINE SILVER" and the denomination "ONE DOLLAR".
The coins come in a gift box along with a certificate of authenticity bearing a hologram with a unique laser-engraved serial number in a limited edition of only 1,669 pieces for the entire world.
