Olmecs - Pre-Columbian Collection 1996 Proof
A rare set of gold coins, the Olmec Collection, issued by the Bank of Mexico in 1996 in the finest purity of 24 karat gold in 1 oz, 1/2 oz and 1/4 oz proof quality, is dedicated to pre-Columbian civilizations, this time the Olmecs.
This unique set of gold coins is rarely seen on the market and is therefore highly sought after by collectors and investors alike!
The front of the coins depict a priest or high dignitary surrounded by a wavy rattlesnake. Rattlesnakes are often found in Central American cultures, their importance began with the Olmec civilization and later spread to other cultures. Below the motif is the inscription in Spanish "Sacerdote" (Priest), followed by the denomination, year of issue and the Mexican mint mark "Mo".
The reverse of the coin features the emblem of Mexico, depicting an eagle hunting a snake. The inscription above the emblem reads 'Estados Unidos Mexicanos' (United States of Mexico). This is followed by the weight and fineness.
The coins come in a deluxe wooden case in a very limited edition of only 500 pieces for the entire world!
