Golden Maple Leaf 2016 - Longest Reigning Sovereign
An exclusive set of four gold coins issued by the Royal Canadian Mint for 2016. The coins were minted in 2015 in 99.99% purity of the purest 24 carat gold in 1 Oz, 1/4 Oz, 1/10 Oz and 1/20 Oz in top quality reverse proof, in honour of the United Kingdom's longest reigning monarch - Queen Elizabeth II..
All four gold coins depict a slightly different motif of a flying maple leaf on their reverse, along with Queen Elizabeth II's monogram consisting of St. Edward's Crown and the "EIIR" symbol. The 1 Oz coin depicts Queen Elizabeth II's purple monogram in the foreground of a maple leaf. The motif is complemented by the inscriptions "CANADA", "FINE GOLD OR PUR", weight, purity and the artist's initials "CG" to the left. The obverse of each coin features a slightly different portrait of Queen Elizabeth II by the following artists: Mary Gillick (1/4 Oz) - portrait first appeared on Canadian circulating coins in 1953, Arnold Machin (1/10 Oz) - portrait from 1965, and Dora De Pédery-Hunt (1/20 Oz). The 1 Oz coin features a 1952 coronation portrait of Queen Elizabeth II wearing the British Imperial Crown on her head. Surrounding the portrait are the inscriptions "ELIZABETH II", "D.G.REGINA", the year of issue and the denomination. The edge of the 1 oz coin is numbered.
The coins come in a deluxe red lacquered maple wood box along with a numbered certificate of authenticity in a very limited edition of only 600 pieces for the entire world!
Queen Elizabeth II.
Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II(Elizabeth Alexandra Mary), English Elizabeth II, (21 April 1926, Mayfair, London - 8 September 2022 Balmoral Castle, Scotland) was the reigning Queen of the independent states known as the Commonwealth Realm. With variations, these were Antigua and Barbuda, Australia, the Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Grenada, Jamaica, Canada, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Solomon Islands, Tuvalu, and the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.
In each of these countries she was considered the monarch of a separate state, and the performance of royal duties for each country was separate. She was also head of the Commonwealth and supreme head of the Church of England. Despite her large number of common law offices, she rarely interfered in politics.
Elizabeth became Queen of Great Britain on the death of her father George VI on 6 February 1952. The long period of her reign saw the dissolution of the British Empire (a process already begun under her father) and the subsequent creation of the Commonwealth. After the British colonies gained independence, she became Queen of several newly independent countries. Some of them later changed their status to republic.
Elizabeth married Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, in 1947, with whom she had four offspring.
In 2022, Elizabeth II celebrated the platinum anniversary of her reign as the longest reigning monarch in British history.
