Krugerrand Investment Coins
The South African Krugerrand, minted since 1967, is a great way to invest in gold. They are the world's most popular gold investment coins. The name of the coin was created by combining the name of the then President of the Boer Transvaal, Kruger, and the South African currency , the Rand. The success of the Krugerrand led to the introduction of the Canadian Maple Leaf in 1979 and the Australian Nugget in 1986. Gold Krugerrands are traditionally accompanied by copper. For example, an ounce coin weighs exactly 33.9305 grams and contains a full ounce (1 Oz - 31.1 g) of pure gold, the remainder being 2.826 grams of copper, which causes the coin to have a different coloration.

Obverse side
The obverse of the coin shows a portrait of the President of the Boer Transvaal, looking left, Paul Kruger, who held office from 1883-1900). The portrait is accompanied by the inscription SUID AFRICA - SOUTH AFRICA.
Reverse side
The reverse of the coin features an animal motif, specifically a gazelle in a leap. The choice is not random, the gazelle is one of South Africa's national symbols. The inscriptions on this side of the coin: are KRUGERRAND FYNGOUD, OZ FINE GOLD as well as the weight and year of issue.
Minting designer
The design of the South African President on the obverse of the Krugerrand coin is by Otto Schultz. The reverse is decorated with a gazelle in a leap by C. L. Steynberg.
