Sacagawea dollar - special edition "Indian Tribes"

This exclusive set of 13 coins, each weighing 8.1 g (0.26 oz) and released in 2009, is dedicated to Indian tribes and the Sacagawea dollar, which has been issued in the U.S. since 2000.

Issued between 2000 and 2008, the reverse side of the coins depicts the U.S. national symbol, a bald eagle in flight, with a quote from the U.S. national emblem "E PLURIBUS UNUM" between its wings, a circle of stars around it, and the inscription "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA", along with the denomination of the coin "ONE DOLLAR" and the initials of the coin's designer, Thomas D. Rogers, "TDP". The 2009 coin depicts a woman sowing a field, a symbol of agriculture, surrounded by the inscription "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" and the denomination "$1" on the reverse.

The obverse shows a miniature portrait of a Sacagawea Indian woman and child. The colored portrait is accompanied by the inscriptions "LIBERTY" and "IN GOD WE TRUST" on ten coins corresponding to ten Indian tribes. All coins also feature the year of issue, except 2009, and the Denver Mint's initial "D" or Philadelphia's initial "P". Sacagawea was an Indian woman who assisted the famous expedition of U.S. Army volunteers led by Capt. Lewis and Lt. Clark, commissioned by President Thomas Jefferson. The goal was to map the unexplored parts of North America from the then United States border in the St. Louis area, to the Pacific coast.
