Gold Maple Leaf - Single-sourced Mine - Éléonore Mine
Issued by the Royal Canadian Mint in 2023, this premium 1 Oz gold investment coin is the second issue minted from a single source of gold of the highest 99.99% purity . The precious metal used to produce these coins comes from the Éléonore mine. The renowned solidity of Maple Leaf investment coins is further supported by responsible mining and production integrity.
The reverse side of the coin bears the iconic sugar maple leaf design by Walter Ott from 1979. Responsible mining is guaranteed by a special coin mark (Privy Mark) in the form of a hand supporting the globe. The coin's security features include fine radial lines on the background and a safety mark in the form of a small maple leaf. The microscopic laser mark contains the year of issue "23", which can be seen under a magnifying glass. Included are the purity information "9999" and the inscriptions "CANADA", "FINE GOLD" and "1 OZ OR PUR" in the description.
The current social trend is placing more and more emphasis on responsible and transparent sourcing of precious metal. For the second year, the Royal Canadian Mint's Special Issue comes with investment coins minted exclusively from a single source of pure gold. This is the Éléonore gold mine, located in James Bay in the Northern Quebec region, approximately 800 kilometres from Montréal. The first gold ingot from Éléonore saw the light of day on October 1, 2014. Today, this facility is one of the most advanced in the mining industry. The company is committed to the health and safety of its employees, while also ensuring their diverse representation. Éléonore strives to minimize the environmental impact of mining. It uses water, waste and tailings treatment practices. It works with energy-saving electricity systems.
The coins are the product of a separate refining process that maintains the integrity of the gold throughout its refining process, from mine to mint.
The obverse bears a traditional portrait of Elizabeth II by Susanna Blunt, accompanied by the reigning years of the monarch "1952 .... 2022". The four pearls incorporated into the year symbolizes the four likenesses of the monarch that have graced Canadian coins. The coin's description lists the inscriptions "ELIZABETH II", the face value "50 DOLLARS" and the year of issue "2023".
The coin is encased in a protective plastic card, which also serves as a certificate of authenticity.
