Two hundred years of the oldest music school in Europe.

zahajeni_prazske_konzervatore_zlata_medaile_2011 The first impulse to found the Prague Conservatoire was a proclamation of the music-loving nobility of Prague in 1808, in which they expressed the need to found a similar institution. This is now considered to be a kind of founding charter of the Prague Conservatory, the oldest school founded for the purpose of training orchestral musicians. The Society for the Ennoblement of Music in Bohemia collected donations and financial contributions, and on 24 April 1811 the first school year of this exceptional institution began. The school played a significant role in the development of Prague and Czech musical life. During its two hundred years of existence, through the various vicissitudes of the times, it has contributed significantly to the development of the musical education of the Czech nation.

The school was gradually housed in the apartments of professors, in the Dominican monastery, in the Rudolfinum, in the Benedictine monastery, in the Chemical Institute and finally, during the First Republic, it acquired its own building in Na Rejdišti Street in Prague's Old Town, where it is still housed today. The most important musical personalities from all over Europe have passed through and worked at the school.

The artist Luboš Charvát chose the historical building of the conservatory in the Old Town as the central motif of the medal, which he depicted in an unconventional way. On the obverse side, the silhouette of the building is formed by music outlines, which converge in rows above each other in perspective and are accompanied by musical markings in the middle. At the bottom of the medal there is an inscription in lines "Opening of teaching at the Prague Conservatoire 1811 - 2011".

The motif of the reverse side follows the obverse side. The sheet music is again arranged in the shape of a silhouette of a building, also converging in perspective, with a musical instrument - the cello - emerging from the centre.

Limited edition of 400, numbered.
