Gold Coins KAREL IV. 1998

1,000 CZK (1/10 oz) is dedicated to the founding of Karlštejn.
The reverse side bears a portrait of Charles IV, based on the painting by Master Theodoric at Karlštejn, accompanied by a reliquary in the shape of a cross against the silhouette of the castle. In the description, the name 'KAREL IV.' and the purity of the metal. The weight in a fraction of a troy ounce is placed over the figure of the monarch. The obverse is dominated by a Bohemian lion in a Gothic shield. The name of the state 'CZECH REPUBLIC' and the years '1348 - 1998' form an unsealed copy. The coin's field indicates in two lines the nominal value of "1.000 CZK". The author of the coin is the academic sculptor Jiří Harcuba.

2.500 CZK (1/4 oz) is dedicated to the legal documents of Charles IV.
The reverse side represents the recognition mark (monogram) of Charles IV, used on legal documents instead of the monarch's personal signature. On the right side, the symbol is complemented by the seal belonging to Charles as the King of Bohemia. The purity of the design is lent by the stylised inscribed name "KAREL IV", the weight of "1/4 oz" and the purity of the metal "Au 999,9". The central motif of the obverse side is the landmarks in gothic shields. The Czech lion in the centre, the Moravian eagle on the right and the Silesian eagle on the left are complemented by the years '1348 - 1998' under the shields. The closed copy has a space for the name of the state "CZECH REPUBLIC" in the upper part and for the nominal value "2,500 CZK" in the lower part. The circle is defined by two rows of mother-of-pearl. The author of the coin is the academic sculptor Jarmila Truhlíková-Spěváková.

5.000 CZK (1/2 oz) is dedicated to the foundation of Charles University.
The reverse side depicts a genre image of a medieval university, a teaching master and students, accompanied by the seal of Charles University and the indication of the gold purity "Au 999.9" and the weight in fraction of troy ounce "1/2 oz". The obverse side of the coin consists of the country's emblems in Gothic shields, from the left the Moravian eagle, the Czech lion and the Silesian eagle, accompanied by the state designation "CZECH REPUBLIC", the nominal value "5,000 CZK" and the years "1348 - 1998". The coin was designed by the academic sculptor Michal Vitanovský.

10.000 CZK (1 oz) is dedicated to the foundation of the New Town of Prague.
The reverse side of the coin is composed of several motifs. The portrait of Charles IV, based on the votive plaque of Jan Oček of Vlašim, is accompanied on the left by the imperial seal of the ruler, on the right by the contemporary seal of the New Town of Prague and at the bottom edge of the coin by the Prague groschen. The central elements of the design transition to the intercircle, flanked by a pearl with the name "KAREL IV." and the weight "1 oz" and gold purity "Au 999.9". The distinctive elements of the obverse side of the coin are represented by provincial emblems in Gothic shields, from the left a Silesian eagle, a Bohemian lion and a Moravian eagle, against a background of period ornamentation. The top of the coin is decorated with the symbol of the St Wenceslas Crown. The lower part of the coin field is completed by the year '1348 - 1998'. The name of the state "CZECH REPUBLIC" and the face value are placed in a closed pearl ring as a description. The individual words of the description are separated from each other by characters stylized in the form of precious stones set in the St Wenceslas crown. The author of the coin is the academic sculptor Vladimír Oppl.
