Detailed description

Westminster Abbey - 100 g

This unique gold coin, issued by the Solomon Islands in 2021 in 99.9% gold, weighing 100 g and of top quality Reverse Proof, is dedicated to the most important religious building in Great Britain - Westminster Abbey.

The reverse of the coin depicts the central part of the crossing of the nave. The point at which the rib vaults meet is designated for the coronation of the monarch. The motif is created in four layers of minting at different depths using an innovative coinage technique that creates a perfect three-dimensional effect. The motif is complemented by the inscription "Westminster Abbey" and the year of issue "2021".
Westminster Abbey bears the official name of the Collegiate Church of St Peter at Westminster. The name Westminster means West Church and identifies its location at the time of its creation. Its predominantly Gothic appearance makes it one of the finest buildings in London. The grandeur coupled with the historical significance are the main tourist attraction from the UNESCO World Heritage Site list.
The abbey was built in the mid-11th century by Edward III. Confessor. The Gothic rebuilding was begun by Henry III. Plantagenet in the 13th century. Subsequent additions and extensions continued until the 18th century. The interior decoration is an example of the English Late Gothic style with its articulated arches and grand chandeliers. Its height of 32m establishes it as the tallest Gothic nave in England.
Coronations and royal weddings have not been without Westminster Abbey since its consecration. It has been the final resting place not only for English and British monarchs, but also for notable personalities. Tombstones bear the names of greats such as Isaac Newton, Charles Darwin, Charles Dickens and Stephen Hawking.

The obverse depicts a traditional portrait of Queen Elizabeth II by Ian-Rank Broadley, which is surrounded by the inscriptions "ELIZABETH II", "SOLOMON ISLANDS", the artist's initials "IRB", a weight of "100g" and a face value of "50 DOLLARS".

The coin comes in its original gift box along with a numbered certificate of authenticity in an extremely limited edition of only 25 pieces for the entire world!
