An exclusive gold coin minted by The Royal Mint in 2004, weighing 15.97g of the finest 22ct yellow and red gold in top proof quality to commemorate the 200th anniversary of the construction of the first steam locomotive in 1804.
The reverse of the coin displays a yellow gold inner circle in the centre with the motif of a steam locomotive in a cogwheel, along with the denomination "TWO POUNDS". The outer circle in red gold depicts the inscriptions "R.TREVITHICK 1804 INVENTION INDUSTRY PROGRESS 2004". The obverse depicts Ian Rank-Brodley's portrait of Queen Elizabeth II of Great Britain, looking to the right, within a yellow gold inner circle. Below the portrait are the initials of the artist 'IRB'. The outer circle in red gold depicts the inscriptions 'ELIZABETH II DEI GRA', 'REG FID DEF'.
