"Marine Life Protection" series - Spotted Octopus
Precision 99.99% pure gold Spotted Octopus coin released in 2012 by Palau as part of the "Marine Life Protection" series.
The reverse of the coin depicts the Spotted Octopus on the seabed with the name of the series "MARINE LIFE PROTECTION" and the Latin form of the octopus' name "HAPALOCHLAENA LUNULATA". The spotted octopus inhabits coral reefs in the Pacific and Indian Oceans from Japan to Australia. It reaches a size of 15 - 20 cm and spends most of its life hidden in rock crevices. When it leaves them, it can camouflage itself very well and quickly change colours in amazing variations. The obverse depicts the god Triton sitting on a rock with mermaids moving around him - a popular Palau theme with the inscriptions "REPUBLIC OF PALAU", the year of issue "2012" and the denomination "1$".
The coin comes in a plastic capsule in a limited edition of only 25,000 pieces worldwide!
