Period postcards

In the free cycle of gold mini-coins of the Czech Mint set in replicas of period postcards, the cities of Prague, Brno, Jablonec nad Nisou and Zlín have been presented so far. In 2018, this list will be further expanded to include the city of Liberec.

Liberec is located in northern Bohemia, near the German border, and both Czechs and Germans have written its history. From the balcony of the neo-Renaissance town hall, František Josef I, Edvard Beneš and Václav Havel spoke to the people of Liberec. The charming building is the heart of the metropolis, and it is no wonder that it (along with the original fountain and part of the main square) also became the central motif of a collectible lithograph from the 1890s. The uniqueness of the postcard, which documents the beginnings of postcard making, lies primarily in the regional publisher. It was the renowned lithographic studio of Conrad Jäger from Proseč nad Nisou, founded in 1871, which was one of our most important publishers. This particular postcard, which served as a template for the coin packaging, was sent from Liberec in 1898, which is evident from the text and the postmark on the two-crecs stamp, and delivered to Horní Blatná the following day. The composition of the postcard is complemented by floral decor and the German inscription "Gruss aus Reichenberg" - greetings from Liberec.

Not only the postcard is dedicated to the Liberec Town Hall, but also the coin itself, whose relief is the work of the talented medallist Petra Brodská, DiS. The obverse side belongs to the attributes of the island of Niue (portrait and name of the monarch Elizabeth II, year of issue 2018 and nominal value of 5 DOLLARS (NZD)), which provides a foreign licence to mint its own commemorative coins of the Czech Mint.

The original issue is perfect for numismatists, philocartists and Liberec patriots.
