Kiwi Treasures Series - Mitre Peak - 2014
The third gold coin issued by the Bank of New Zealand in 2014 in the Kiwi Treasures series and minted by the German mint BH Mayer's Kunstprageanstalt in top proof quality, weighing 1/4 troy ounce (7.78g) in purity of the purest 99.99% gold, is dedicated to the flora and fauna that symbolises New Zealand.
The reverse of the coin depicts an almost 3D relief - the symbols of New Zealand: the Kiwi bird against the backdrop of the iconic New Zealand mountain Mitre Peak at the Milford Sound fjord in all its glory, surrounded by KORU spirals (based on another symbol of New Zealand - the silver fern (Cyathea dealbata)), which represent the wind god Tawhirimatea. The denomination is placed below the motif. The obverse depicts a traditional portrait of Queen Elizabeth II by Ian Rank-Broadley. This is followed by the inscriptions "NEW ZEALAND", "ELIZABETH II", the year of issue and the author's initials.
The coin comes in a gift case along with a numbered certificate of authenticity in a limited edition of only 950 pieces for the entire world!
