An exclusive rectangular gold coin issued by the Solomon Islands State for 2020 in top quality proof, weighing 2.5 g in purity of the purest 99.99% gold, depicting the symbols for good luck - the four-leaf clover and the horseshoe. The coin is struck at the Swiss PAMP refinery, giving it the prestigious hallmark of the highest quality.
This coin is ideal as a gift for a loved one bringing wishes of good luck and protection, as a personal talisman.
Its design is a continuation of the 2019 edition of the Guardian Angel coin featuring the Bernard Braun statue, which sold out in a matter of weeks with a mintage of 150 pieces.
Coins for luck
Not only the horseshoe and the four-leaf clover, but also the coin itself is considered in many cultures to be a symbol or talisman that brings good luck to its owner. This coin is therefore an ideal combination of good luck symbols. Buying it will give you a beautiful gift that will bring good things to your loved ones.
The reverse of the coin depicts a horseshoe, which has been used as a symbol of good luck since the 10th century. It is depicted with a downward arc. This makes it a "vessel" to keep good luck in the house. The horseshoe can also be hung in reverse. If the household is currently experiencing difficulties, it can be hung with the arc upwards to allow good fortune to pour into the house.
The obverse features an inner circle with a traditional portrait of Britain's Queen Elizabeth II by Ian-Rank Broadley, the artist's initials "IRB", the denomination "10 DOLLARS" and the year of issue "2020". The weight and purity are indicated below the portrait.
Each coin is encased in a cardboard gift wrapper, which also serves as a certificate of authenticity, and includes space for a personal dedication. The mintage is limited to 200 pieces for the entire world!
The horseshoe has been bringing good luck for centuries
Since time immemorial, people have believed in the beneficial influence of various objects that were supposed to bring them health, love and money. One of the most unknown of these is the horse shoe. But why did the horseshoe become a symbol of good luck?
The first iron horse shoes were probably made by the Celts. They too hung horseshoes in their houses, as they attributed to iron the ability to protect them from evil forces. Metal shoes, called hyposandals, tied in various ways, protected the hooves of the horses of the ancient Romans and Greeks. Rich owners decorated them with precious metals, and to find a lost shoe was therefore very lucky.
The popularity of the horseshoe as a symbol of good fortune in Europe is due to the legend of the English saint Dunstan, patron saint of blacksmiths, bell-ringers and goldsmiths, who lived in the 10th century. Dunstan was of noble birth and became a priest. After his ordination, he lived for a time as a hermit, practiced painting, metalwork and even knew how to cast bells. He was later appointed Archbishop of Cantenbury.
During his lifetime, miracles were attributed to him. Some of the stories have been humanised, such as the legend of the devil's witchcraft. One day the devil appeared in Dunstan's forge disguised as a weary traveller and wanted to shoe a horse. Dunstan, however, recognized the devil and nailed a horseshoe to the devil's hoof instead of the horse's leg. The devil promised Dunstan that if he removed the horseshoe, he would never enter a house with a horseshoe hanging over the door.
