Big Five 1 Oz Water Buffalo - High Relief
The unique gold coin issued by the Republic of Côte d'Ivoire for 2022 is minted from the purest 99.9% gold weighing 31.1 g (1 Oz). This coin is the fifth one-ounce gold coin to be released in the highly successful Big Five series, and the buffalo was chosen for its motif.
The reverse of the coin depicts a detailed representation of a buffalo head. The portrait is highlighted by the high relief technology and antique finish. The motif is surrounded by the weight "1 OZ", the purity "9999 AU", the inscriptions "HAUT-RELIEF (high relief in French) and "BUFFALO". The motif includes the logo of the engraving workshop 'P. De Greef' and the mark of the designer.
The African buffalo (Syncerus caffer) is a robust herbivore characterised by its curved horns that touch at the forehead. Its three subspecies differ in size and inhabit the grass savannahs, swampy areas and rainforests south of the African Sahara. It lives in small family herds, but sporadic groups of thousands have been recorded. It is very aggressive when disturbed or attacked. Of the Big Five, it has been responsible for the most fatal attacks on humans. It is also an equal opponent to lions, which are the only predators of adults.
The obverse depicts the national emblem of Côte d'Ivoire with the inscriptions "REPUBLIQUE DE COTE D'IVOIRE", the year of issue "2022" and the denomination "100 FRANCS CFA". The edge of the coin is numbered.
The coin comes in a luxury wooden gift box along with a numbered certificate of authenticity in a limited edition of only 199 pieces for the whole world!
