An exclusive gold coin issued by the US Mint West Point in 2017, struck in the finest Proof quality 24 karat gold weighing 1 ounce in high relief, commemorates the 225th anniversary of the United States Mint in 1792.
To commemorate this event, a motif designed by artist Justin Kunz was chosen for the reverse of the coin. The modern rendering of Lady Liberty depicts an African-American woman symbolizing freedom and equality. The woman wears a crown of stars on her head and is surrounded by the inscriptions "LIBERTY", the anniversary year "1792,2017" and "IN GOD WE TRUST". Symbolic figures of Liberty have adorned American coins since the founding of the United States Mint. The obverse depicts a flying eagle surrounded by the inscriptions "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA", "E PLURIBUS UNUM", weight and purity information (1 OZ .9999 FINE GOLD), face value (100 DOLLARS) mint mark and the artist's initials.
The coin comes in a deluxe black lacquered box with an accompanying booklet describing the evolution of the United States national symbol and a certificate of authenticity. The worldwide mintage of these anniversary coins is limited to 100,000 pieces.
