Detailed description

Famous golden American Double Eagle - St. Gaudens - 1924

The American Double Eagle gold investment coins were minted by the US Mint (by the mint mark it is possible to determine the name of the mint: S - San Francisco Mint, D - Denver Mint, No mark - Philadelphia Mint) from 22 carat gold between 1907 and 1933, weighing 33.4360 grams and containing less than one troy ounce (0.9675 oz - 30.0926 g) of pure gold, the rest being traditionally copper to increase the durability of the coins.

These gold coins are very rarely obtained and are therefore highly sought after by collectors and investors!

The reverse side of the coin depicts a young eagle flying in the sunrise. The bird of prey is surrounded on the top by the inscription "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA", and the denomination "TWENTY DOLLARS". Below the eagle is the famous motto "IN GOD WE TRUST".

In 1849, the Mint struck two American Eagle $20 gold coins in the Proof collector version. The first of these coins is currently in the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, DC. The second coin, which belonged to then Secretary of the Treasury William M. Meredith, was sold as part of his estate after his death and its current location is unknown.
In 1904, then-President Theodore Roosevelt had plans to create a new design for U.S. coins and suggested sculptor Auguste Saint-Gaudens for a new version of their design. Due to the artist's health problems and difficulties with the relief design, new designs were not created until 1907, shortly before his death, for both the $10 and $20 coins, which are known worldwide as the "Double Eagle".
The motto "In God We Trust" on the reverse side of the coin was originally omitted in 1907-1908 because then-President Roosevelt did not see fit to place God's name on the money. However, by an act of Congress, the motto was reintroduced into the design in mid-1908, leading to the issuance of two versions of the Double Eagle coin in 1908, one with the motto and one without.
Regular coin production continued until December 28, 1933, when the gold surrender order was issued. After this change, the Treasury Department melted down millions of gold coins and only a few survive. The 1933 Double Eagle is considered the most valuable American coin, as only a few examples survive worldwide.

The obverse depicts a figure walking Liberty with flowing hair. He holds a torch in his right hand and an olive branch, a symbol of peace, in his left. Almost hidden in the lower left is the United States Capitol. On the right side is the year of issue. The coin's rim is completed with the inscription "LIBERTY" and stars symbolizing the number of states in the Union. In 1912, the design was again slightly altered when New Mexico and Arizona joined the Confederacy. The number of stars along the edge increased from 46 to 48.
