Israel's 70th Anniversary
An exclusive gold coin issued by the Bank of Israel for 2018 and minted in 91.7% gold purity (22 kt) weighing 16.96 g in Proof quality, commemorates the 70th anniversary of the State of Israel.
The reverse side of the coin is dominated by the Star of David, the symbol of the Jewish people, along which are the inscriptions "Israel" and "Heritage of Innovation" in Hebrew. The description of the coin includes the inscription "Israel's 70th Anniversary" in English, Hebrew and Arabic.
Israel declared its independence on 14 May 1948. This was followed by a conflict called the War of Independence during which the Israel Defense Forces repelled countless attacks for 15 months. This war claimed nearly one percent of the Jewish population. After the subsequent ceasefire agreements, Israel focused on state-building. In the following years, the state built new housing as a result of the influx of immigrants who survived the Holocaust and developed industry, agriculture and education. Although the Israeli state has faced many military attacks, the government has always tried to achieve peace.
The obverse bears in its center the face value of the coin "10 NEW SHEKELS" and its transliteration in Hebrew, surrounded by two wavy stripes symbolizing the national flag. The emblem of the State of Israel is placed at the top of the coin. The description then gives the inscription "ISRAEL" in English, Hebrew and Arabic and the inscription "INDEPENDENCE DAY 2018", translated as Independence Day 2018 and its transcription in Hebrew and Arabic.
