1/2 Oz Gold Coin - Žďákovský Most

The obverse of the coin shows a detail of the bridge riveting. In its left part there is a composition of heraldic animals from the great state emblem. On top is the Moravian eagle, in the middle the Czech lion and below it the Silesian eagle. In the lower right half of the coin is the denomination of the coin with the abbreviation of the monetary unit "5000 CZK", the name of the state "CZECH REPUBLIC" and the name of the cycle "BRIDGES". The mark of the Czech Mint, which consists of the letters 'Č' and 'M', is at the right edge of the coin.

On the reverse side of the coin is the Žďák Arch Bridge shown from the ceiling. The text 'ŽĎÁKOVÝ OBUKOVÝ BRIDGE' appears in the lower right half of the coin. At the upper left edge of the coin is the year of mintage " 2015" and at the lower left edge of the coin are the initials of the author Luboš Charvát, which are formed by the interconnected letters "LCH".

The Žďákovský Bridge is a steel road bridge over the Vltava River in the district of Písek, in South Bohemia. It is part of the I/19 road connecting Tábor with Plzeň and is located about 15 km west of Milevsko and 12 km east of Mirovice.

It lies between the villages of Staré Sedlo (Orlík nad Vltavou) on the left bank and Kostelec nad Vltavou on the right bank of the river.

The construction of the bridge was started simultaneously with the construction of the Orlice dam in 1957. The construction, costing 71 million Czechoslovak crowns, was finally completed in 1967. At that time it was considered by experts to be the largest simple full-wall double-arch steel arch bridge in the world. Today, it is probably the eighth largest bridge in the world and holds its first place within the Czech Republic. In 2001, the Žďákovský Bridge was awarded the Bridge of the Century prize in the category of steel road bridges at the Bridges 2001 symposium in Brno.

The length of the bridge is 542.91 m. The main arch with a span of 379.60 m supports the structure, along which a two-lane road runs at a height of 50 m above the lake level and 100 m above the Vltava River bed. The weight of the arch is 3 100 t, and the weight of all the steel used is 4 116 t. The authors of the project were Pragoprojekt and Hutní projekt Praha. The construction was carried out by Hutní montáže Ostrava-Vítkovice.
