1/2 Oz Gold Coin - Bridge in Karviná - Darkov
The obverse side of the coin shows a view of the reinforced concrete bridge in Karviná-Darkov. Above it is a composition of heraldic animals from the great state emblem. In the middle is the Czech lion, to the left of it is the Moravian eagle and to the right of it is the Silesian eagle. On the bridge is the denomination of the coin with the abbreviation of the monetary unit "5000 CZK". The name of the state "CZECH REPUBLIC" and the name of the cycle "MOSTY" are on the perimeter of the coin. The coin was minted by the Czech Mint and its mark, which consists of the letters "Č" and "M", is placed to the right of the Silesian eagle.
The reverse side of the coin shows a side view of the reinforced concrete bridge in Karviná-Darková. The text 'ŽELEZOBETONOVÝ BRIDGE' is at the upper edge of the coin and a stylised depiction of a grassland, the text 'V KARVINÉ-DARKOVĚ' and the year of mintage '2014' are at the lower edge of the coin. The author of the coin is Asamat Baltaev. His mark is located in front of the word "IRON".
The Karviná-Darkov spa boasts a nice technical monument. The reinforced concrete arch road bridge from 1925 over the Olše River, located opposite the main spa building, underwent extensive reconstruction in 2003-2004 and gained not only a representative facade but also a new function. The renovation of the dilapidated 56 m long bridge was also combined with the adaptation of the surrounding roads so that the unusual monument serves only pedestrians and cyclists, not motor vehicles.
The reconstruction has therefore turned the Darkov Bridge into a small promenade area for spa guests, and a stroll along it is just as pleasant as sitting on the newly installed benches overlooking the river. The bridge's technical highlight is the aesthetically impressive transverse reinforcement of the upper parts of the reinforced concrete arches by three pairs of horizontal members connected by a vertical central member.
