Gold Coin KAREL IV - Foundation of Charles University
The exclusive gold coin is a solitaire of the "Charles IV" collection issued by the Czech National Bank on 18 March 1998 and also on 24 February 1999 on the occasion of the 650th anniversary of the foundation of Charles University. This set of gold coins is a real treasure in the world of numismatics and as such is sought after by discerning collectors and investors. The coin is housed in a burgundy plastic box and its integral part is a certificate of authenticity issued by the issuer.
The reverse side depicts a genre image of a medieval university, a teaching master and pupils, accompanied by the seal of Charles University and the gold purity "Au 999.9" and weight in fraction of troy ounce "1/2 oz". The description in the left part contains the name "KAREL IV."
The obverse side of the coin consists of the country's emblems in gothic shields, from the left the Moravian eagle, the Czech lion and the Silesian eagle, supplemented by the state designation "CZECH REPUBLIC", the nominal value "5,000 CZK" and the years "1348 - 1998" (the year 1999 contains only the year of issue). The author of the coin is the academic sculptor Michal Vitanovský.
