Detailed description
1/2 Oz gold coin - Jizera Viaduct on the line Tanvald - Harrachov
On the obverse side of the coin is a composition of heraldic animals from the great state emblem - the Czech lion on top, the Moravian eagle in the middle and the Silesian eagle at the bottom. To the left of the composition of heraldic animals are the emblems of the towns of Tanvald and Harrachov. Above the emblems of the towns is the name of the cycle "MOSTY" and below them is the denomination of the coin with the abbreviation of the monetary unit "5000 CZK". The name of the state "CZECH REPUBLIC" is at the top, left and bottom edge of the coin. The coin was minted by the Czech Mint in Jablonec nad Nisou, and its mark, which consists of a composition of the letters 'Č' and 'M', is to the right of the Silesian eagle.
The reverse side of the coin shows a side view of the Jizera Bridge on the Tanvald - Harrachov line. To the right of the depiction of the bridge is the text 'JIZERSKÝ MOST NA TRATI' in three lines and at the bottom, right and top edges is the text 'TANVALD - HARRACHOV'. The year of mintage '2014' is above the bridge. The coin was designed by the academic painter Vladimír Pavlica, whose initials, consisting of the letters 'VP' in a frame, are placed to the left of the depiction of the first pillar of the bridge.
Today, 12 kilometres of the line from Tanvald to Harrachov, known among people as the "Korenovská Zubačka" or also "Polubenka", from the original 59-kilometre Austrian-Prussian link between Tanvald and Hirschberg (today's Polish town of Jelenia Góra), is in operation. The line from Tanvald to Harrachov boasts many interesting man-made structures, including five tunnels, the longest of which is 940 metres long, the still preserved 4.43 km long two-lane Abt's cog railway in the axis of the track on the seven-kilometre section Tanvald - Kořenov, overcoming the height difference of 235 metres with a maximum gradient of up to 58 per mille, which is the highest in the Czech Republic.
From the listed Kořenov railway station (701 m above sea level) the railway continues in a long horseshoe-shaped curve over a 26 m high bridge over the Jizera River, which crosses from the Jizera Mountains to the Krkonoše Mountains. Then the orphaned tracks continue from today's terminus in the Harrachov local part of Mýtiny (740 m above sea level) over the Novosvětský Pass (885 m above sea level) for another 15 km to the Polish spa town and the Krkonoše resort of Szklarska Poreba. From there, electric passenger trains of the Polish State Railways run another 32 km to Jelenia Góra.
