Mission to Mars - 50th Anniversary - First Levitating Coin
A unique red gold plated coin issued by Samoa in 2014, it was minted to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Mission to Mars. The coin includes a levitating device that allows the coin to float.
The reverse of the coin depicts the landing of the "Curiosity" rover on the planet Mars. Mars is the fourth planet in the solar system, the second smallest planet in the system after Mercury. It is named after the Roman god of war, Martius. The Mars Science Laboratory (MSL), better known by the name of its own rover, Curiosity, is an American NASA spacecraft designed to explore the surface of Mars. The obverse of the coin bears the coat of arms of Samoa and the face value. The edge of the coin is numbered.
The coin comes in a gift box along with a numbered certificate of authenticity in a limited edition of only 5,000 pieces for the entire world.
