An Aboriginal Story - Five Ounce Gold Coin - The Legend of the Spirit Bear

This exclusive gold coin, issued by the Royal Canadian Mint in 2014 and precision struck in a premium quality proof weighing 5 Oz (156.05 g) in purity of the purest 99.99% gold, is dedicated to the legend of Canada's Aboriginal people - "The Spirit Bear" - the Kermode Bear (Baribal White).

The reverse of the coin depicts a raven flapping its wings to transform a surrendered bear. Against the backdrop of the mountains of British Columbia, Indian dwellings are depicted, with Indians paddling down a river in canoes, the bear totem covering the sun. The motif is accompanied by the inscription "CANADA", the denomination "500 DOLLARS", the year of issue and the artist's initials "DG". The obverse shows a traditional portrait of Queen Elizabeth II by Susanne Blunt with the inscriptions "ELIZABETH II" and "D G REGINA".

The coin comes in a luxurious burgundy lacquered maple wood box along with a numbered certificate of authenticity in an extremely limited edition of only 50 pieces for the entire world!

The Legend of the Spirit Bear - Indian Legend of the Spirit Bear

"The white raven, who first made the world white, flaps his wings to bring color to the world. After the ice melted and beautiful lands full of color appeared, people began to use the gifts of the earth, to float rivers, to build new dwellings. People became so enamored of this beauty that they began to compete and fight over literally everything. And so the White Raven decided to make every tenth bear white (Kermode "Spirit" Bear) to remind people where he came from." The legend describes a rare Canadian subspecies of the North American baribal bear, which is usually black, but one in ten bears to this day are indeed born white.
