Big Five 5 Oz Rhino - High Relief
The unique 2019 gold coin issued by the Republic of Côte d'Ivoire is minted from the purest 99.9% gold and weighs 155.5 g (5 Oz). This five ounce coin is part of the highly successful Big Five series. The fourth representative of the Big Five African animals is the rhinoceros.
The reverse of the coin depicts a detailed head of a rhinoceros. The portrait is underlined by the high relief processing technology and antique design. The motif is surrounded by the weight "5 OZ", the purity "999 AU" and the inscriptions "MAUQUOY" (name of the Belgian mint), "HAUT-RELIEF" (high relief in French) and "RHINO". The design also includes the maker's mark.
There are currently five species of rhinoceroses, two in Africa and three in South Asia. They have one or two horns, which are made up entirely of horn. The robust body is covered with thick, leathery plates and an adult can weigh up to 3.5 tonnes. The brain is small in proportion to their size, weighing only something between 400 and 600 g. They are short-sighted, but this is compensated by a highly developed sense of hearing and smell. Rhinos are a critically endangered species. It's estimated that up to 90% have been poached for their horns.
The obverse depicts the national emblem of Côte d'Ivoire with the inscriptions "REPUBLIQUE DE COTE D'IVOIRE", the year of issue "2019" and the denomination "10,000 FRANCS CFA". The edge of the coin is numbered.
The coin comes in a luxury wooden gift box along with a numbered certificate of authenticity in a limited edition of only 99 pieces for the whole world!
