Five Ounce Gold Coin - The Story of Canada's First Inhabitants
This exclusive 5 Oz (156.05 g) gold coin, issued by the Royal Canadian Mint in 2013 in premium proof quality and purity of the purest 99.99% gold, is dedicated to Canada's original inhabitants, their culture and traditions.
The reverse of the coin depicts the artistic style of the myths and narratives of the Atikamekw people of the Quebec region, beautifully rendered by famed Canadian artist Raymond Weizineau. The motifs of wild animals, an Inukshuk and an Indian in a canoe are surrounded by a ribbon of eight maple leaves, all imaginatively incorporated into a snowflake that features the inscriptions "CANADA", the denomination "500 DOLLARS" and the year of issue. Below the polar bear are the artist's initials "RW". The obverse shows a traditional portrait of Queen Elizabeth II by Susanne Blunt with the inscriptions "ELIZABETH II" and "D G REGINA".
The coin comes in a burgundy leatherette box along with a numbered certificate of authenticity in an extremely limited edition of only 100 pieces for the entire world!
