The obverse side of the coin shows a side view of the Chain Bridge in Stádlec, with stylized heraldic animals from the Great State Emblem above. At the left, top and right edge of the coin is the title of the cycle "CULTURAL MONUMENTS OF TECHNICAL HERITAGE". At the left and bottom edge of the coin is the name of the state "CZECH REPUBLIC" and at the right edge of the coin is the denomination with the abbreviation of the monetary unit "2500 CZK". The mark of the Czech Mint is placed below the abbreviation of the monetary unit. The entire perimeter of the obverse side of the coin is lined with mother-of-pearl.
The reverse side of the coin shows a frontal view of the Chain Bridge in Stádlec. Above the front pylon of the bridge, the year of completion of the bridge is given in Roman numerals as 'MDCCCXLVIII'. At the top and bottom edge of the coin is the unsealed inscription "CHAIN BRIDGE IN STADLCI". The year of mintage "2008" is located at the bottom edge of the coin above the words "IN STADLCI". The coin was designed by Mr Luboš Charvát. His initials, the stylized connected letters "LCH", are placed next to the left edge of the pylon.
The Stádlecky Bridge is the last surviving Empire chain bridge in the Czech Republic. In 1959 the bridge was declared a National Technical Monument.
The bridge was built by Vojtěch Lanna in 1847-1848 according to the project of ing. Gassner and B. Schnirch over the Vltava River in Podolsk. The bridge served for many years, until 1960. Since the late 1930s, however, a new bridge of reinforced concrete has stood directly over the existing bridge. After the filling of the Orlík dam, the bridge, at that time already a cultural monument, would be submerged and therefore it was decided to carefully dismantle it, document it and store it in a place outside the flooded bank.
An offer to buy the bridge came from abroad in the 1960s, but fortunately it was rejected and it was decided to move and rebuild it later (reconstruction of the bridge). From several possible locations, a picturesque spot on the Lužnice River, on the road between Stádlec and Dobřejice, was chosen. It has been in operation at this location since its inauguration on 25 May 1975.
The basic supporting structure of the bridge consists of 4 chains arranged in two pairs. They are placed on two stone pylons, gates 13 metres high. The bridge deck consists of oak planks, newly installed in 2007. A mobile gangway is installed under the bridge deck for minor repairs.
