On the obverse side of the coin minted according to the design of Jakub Vlček, a student of the Academy of Fine Arts, there are stylized heraldic animals from the state emblem of the Czech Republic in the upper part of the coin. In the centre, positioned slightly higher, is the Czech lion, on the left the Silesian and on the right the Moravian eagle. Below the heraldic animals is the name of the state "CZECH REPUBLIC" and below that the name of the entire cycle of gold coins "TEN CENTURIES OF ARCHITECTURE". The lower part of the coin depicts the upper castle in Buchlovice and below it is the denomination of the coin with the abbreviation of the monetary unit "2000 CZK". All texts are in italics and the initial letters of all words are capitalized. At the bottom right edge of the coin is the mark of the Czech Mint Bižuterie a.s., which minted the coin.
The reverse side of the coin depicts the lower chateau in Buchlovice, above it is the inscription "BAROKO", below it "ZÁMEK BUCHLOVICE". At the bottom edge of the coin, in the middle, is the year marking the year of minting '2003'. The texts on the reverse side are also written in italics with the initial letters of all words capitalized. The author's mark of the designer is at the lower right edge of the coin.
Buchlovice Castle
Buchlovice Castle is located in the Zlín Region, about 11 km from the town of Uherské Hradiště. The entire Baroque complex consists of two castle buildings and a large park.
The history of the chateau follows the history of the nearby Buchlov Castle, which as an old medieval fortress became inconvenient for the nobility at the end of the 17th century. It is said that the then owner of the estate, Jan Dětřich of Petřvald, built the castle for his wife Eleonora of Colonna-Fels, originally from Italy, for whom the castle was too cold. The castle was built in the Italian Baroque style according to the design of Domenico Martinelli and is one of the most beautiful complexes of its kind in the country. The castle was completed in 1707. The Petřvald family was replaced in 1800 by the Berchtold family, who lived here until 1945, when the castle was nationalized. The chateau consists of two opposite buildings, the upper of which was formerly used for farm purposes. In the middle between the buildings is a courtyard with a central fountain. The ground floor of the lower building was formerly used for hospitality and residential purposes. Interesting is the sala terrena with rich stucco decoration and mosaic ornaments on the walls, situated below the main hall.
The chateau acquired its present appearance in the first two decades of the 20th century (the architect Dominik Fey carried out the alterations).
In 1805 Leopold I. Berchtold placed a military hospital in the castle buildings. On 5 May of the same year the village was promoted to a market town. In 1945 the castle became the property of the state.
The castle features 18 historically furnished rooms in Baroque, Rococo and New Baroque styles, a music hall and many curiosities. In the surrounding gardens you can also visit the fuchsia exhibition, the bird of prey breeding station or the wine cellar with traditional Moravian wines. In the castle premises there are collections of Italian, French and Dutch prints (engravings by Lucas Leyden, allegories by Pietro Breughel Sr., prints by Henrik Goltzio, prints by Rembrandt).
