Golden twenty-franc Helvetia - Vreneli 1935 (new production)

The Swiss gold twenty-franc "Helvetia" (also known as "Vreneli" or "Libertas") was one of the most popular European gold coins and is still often considered one of the most beautiful.

The Helvetia - Libertas type was issued in 1883, 1886 - 1896 and the Helvetia - Vreneli type was issued in 1897 - 1935 and then again in 1947 and 1949. Between 1945 and 1947, the 1935 coinage was produced, these were marked with the letter "L".

These gold Swiss 20 francs are very rarely obtained and are therefore highly sought after by collectors and investors.

The Helvetia - Libertas type depicts the head of Liberty with a headdress in her hair bearing the inscription "Libertas". The portrait is accompanied by the inscription "CONFEDERATIO HELVETICA". The reverse shows the traditional Swiss cross on the shield and a five-pointed star above it. All surrounded by a wreath. The denomination "20" is marked on the left side of the shield and "FR" is marked on the right side, the mint mark Bern "B" is usually placed below the date of issue.

The second type, known as "Vreneli" or "Vrenelli", shows on the obverse a female head with wavy hair with a floral wreath around her neck. The Alps are depicted in the background and the word 'HELVETIA' is placed above the portrait. The reverse depicts a traditional Swiss cross mounted on a shield set in oak branches with ribbons. The denomination "20" is marked on the left side of the shield and "FR" is marked on the right side, the mint mark Bern "B" is placed to the right of the date of issue and in the case of this 1935 newly minted coin, the "L"(ingot, investment) mark is placed on the left. The portrait was of the model Francoise Engli.
