Detailed description

Gold Coin KAREL IV - Foundation of the New Town of Prague

The exclusive gold coin is a solitaire of the "Charles IV" collection issued by the Czech National Bank on 24 February 1999 on the occasion of the 650th anniversary of the founding of the New Town of Prague. This set of gold coins is a real treasure in the world of numismatics and as such is sought after by discerning collectors and investors. The coin is housed in a burgundy plastic box and its integral part is the certificate of authenticity issued by the issuer.

This one-ounce coin, dedicated to the founding of the New Town of Prague, was named the most beautiful gold commemorative coin in the world in 2001 in the United States by the professional magazine World Coin News !!!

The reverse side of the coin is composed of several motifs. The portrait of Charles IV, based on the votive plaque of Jan Oček of Vlašim, is accompanied by the imperial seal of the ruler on the left side, the contemporary seal of the New Town of Prague on the right side and the Prague groschen at the bottom edge of the coin. The central elements of the design transition to the intercircle, flanked by a pearl with the name "KAREL IV." and the weight "1 oz" and gold purity "Au 999.9".

The distinctive elements of the obverse side of the coin are represented by the landmarks in Gothic shields, from the left the Silesian eagle, the Bohemian lion and the Moravian eagle, against a background of period ornamentation. The top of the coin is decorated with the symbol of the St Wenceslas Crown. The year of issue '1999' completes the lower part of the coin's field. The name of the state "CZECH REPUBLIC" and the face value are placed in a closed pearl ring as a description. The individual words of the description are separated from each other by symbols stylized in the form of precious stones set in the St Wenceslas Crown. The author of the coin is the academic sculptor Vladimír Oppl.
