The Wedding of Prince William and Kate
The wedding of Prince William of Wales and Catherine Middleton was officially announced on 16 November 2010. The wedding took place on 29 April 2011 at Westminster Abbey in London. A public holiday was declared on this day in the United Kingdom.
Prince William, second in line of succession to the British throne, and Catherine Middleton became engaged in October 2010 during a private visit to Kenya. The ceremony was watched by an estimated 800,000 people on the streets of London and 2 billion people around the world via television broadcast.
Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Cambridge (born 9 January 1982 Reading, Berkshire; also known as Kate), born Catherine Elizabeth Middleton, met William at the University of St Andrews, where the Prince first noticed her when she was performing in a fashion show.
On 22 July 2013 at 16:24 local time, the couple gave birth to a son, George Alexander Louis, who, as a native member of the Royal Family and future heir to the throne, was given the title "Prince" and the surname "of Cambridge" after his parents' title.
