Queen Elizabeth II.

queen_elizabeth_ii_uk.jpg

Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II(Elizabeth Alexandra Mary), English Elizabeth II, (21 April 1926, Mayfair, London - 8 September 2022 Balmoral Castle, Scotland) was the reigning Queen of the independent states known as the Commonwealth Realm. With variations, these were Antigua and Barbuda, Australia, the Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Grenada, Jamaica, Canada, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Solomon Islands, Tuvalu, and the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.

In each of these countries she was considered the monarch of a separate state, and the performance of royal duties for each country was separate. She was also head of the Commonwealth and supreme head of the Church of England. Despite her large number of common law offices, she rarely interfered in politics.

Elizabeth became Queen of Great Britain on the death of her father George VI on 6 February 1952. The long period of her reign saw the dissolution of the British Empire (a process already begun under her father) and the subsequent creation of the Commonwealth. After the British colonies gained independence, she became Queen of several newly independent countries. Some of them later changed their status to republic.

Elizabeth married Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, in 1947, with whom she had four offspring.

In 2022, Elizabeth II celebrated the platinum anniversary of her reign as the longest reigning monarch in British history.
