This exclusive gold coin, issued by The Royal Mint in 2021, is minted from the purest 99.9% gold and weighs 1kg in Proof quality. The commemorative coin marks a significant milestone in the British monarchy and celebrates the 95th birthday of Queen Elizabeth II.
The coin's reverse design was created by Gary Breeze. He elegantly linked 9 roses, each representing a decade of the Queen's life, and 54 leaves, referring to the 54 Commonwealth countries. The centre of the coin is dominated by the crown of St Edward and the initials of Elizabeth E II R (Elizabeth II Regina). The description of the coin reads "MY HEART AND MY DEVOTION 1926 2021", with the small initials of the maker "GB" at the end of the inscription.
Queen Elizabeth II celebrated a milestone in her remarkable life, a remarkable 95 years, on 21 April 2021. Not only is she the longest reigning monarch in the history of the United Kingdom, she is also the only one to have reached the age of 95. Elizabeth came to the throne in 1952 following the sudden death of her father, King George VI. At her coronation in 1953, she declared, "I shall devote my whole life, however long or short it may be, to your service and to the service of our great Imperial family, to which we all belong."
The obverse shows a traditional portrait of Elizabeth II by Jody Clark. The coin description states "ELIZABETH II. D.G. REG.F.D.", the denomination "1000 POUNDS" and the year of issue "2021". The initials of the designer Jody Clark "JC" are included.
