Set of silver coloured coins

RAZITKO_POSTOVNE_ZDARMA_NENI

Set "Coins from beyond the grave"

This original set of silver and digitally coloured coins, issued by the Republic of Kiribati in 2016 in a premium proof grade, is dedicated to four of the most famous characters of horror literature.

The first coin of the set is dedicated to the character of the Werewolf. In European folklore and mythology, a werewolf, or lycanthrope, is a person capable of transforming into a wolf or similar creature. This condition is caused by specific circumstances of birth, a curse or injury by another werewolf and is called lycanthropy, a term for a mental illness in which a person perceives himself or herself as an animal, most often a wolf. The classic idea of the werewolf comes from the medieval Germanic myth "Of Wodan and his Wolves" from which the first ideas about werewolves emerged over time. Regardless of the Germanic ideas, the idea of the werewolf also developed among the Slavs, where the wolf was traditionally considered an evil creature. Probably the earliest mention of werewolves is considered to be a passage in "The Word of Igor's Regiment", where Prince Vseslav ran like a wolf at night.

The second coin of the set depicts the Mummy. A mummy is the dead body of a human or animal that has been preserved either naturally (by freezing, drying, etc.) or artificially by embalming. During the 20th century, mummies and their curses became a popular part of horror films and literature. The earliest of these is the 1932 film The Mummy, starring Boris Karloff as Imhotep, which received two remakes (1959 and 1999). However, animated mummies also appear in many other films. The popularity of this theme probably stems from the popularity of the alleged curse of Tutankhamun's tomb, discovered and explored in 1923 by British archaeologist Howard Carter. He came across a series of inscriptions in the tomb warning ancient grave robbers, and over the following years, a number of expedition members and people who came into contact with objects from the tomb died mysteriously.

The third mime of the set belongs to Death. The Grim Reaper or Death is the traditional personification of death, depicted as a skeleton with a scythe, often depicted in a black robe. Sometimes she appears as an old woman or an old man (grim reaper). According to the narrative, the grim reaper comes to the dying to symbolically cut their lives with a scythe. Since the beginning of mankind, in almost all advanced societies, there has been a figure who takes the life of those for whom it is time to go. In Greek mythology, it was the god Thanatos, the god of death, usually depicted as a young man with black wings and an extinguished or dying torch. In Hindu mythology, the god of death was Yama, riding a black buffalo and holding a lasso. Most images of death personified, riding on some animal and holding an instrument that comes from that cultural setting and that is used to end a person's life.

The fourth coin in the set is the Headless Horseman. Legends of the existence of this dark figure date back to the early Middle Ages. According to the Celts, he was a dullahan (dark man) who rode a black horse, his head on the saddle and holding a whip made of a human spine. In other European versions he is accompanied by a pack of hunting dogs with tongues of fire. The Headless Horseman is also part of the famous Brothers Grimm fairy tales, and his portrayal in the film Sleepy Hollow, referring to the horseman's birth during one of the battles of the American War of Independence in 1776, proves the spread of his legends beyond Europe.

All coins bear the traditional portrait of Queen Elizabeth II by Ian Rank-Brodley on their obverse, with the inscriptions "KIRIBATI 2016", "5 DOLLARS" and the initials of the coin's designer "IRB". The scene is complemented by the national emblem of the Republic of Kiribati.

The coins are supplied in a stylish coffin-shaped box made of solid wood, which when opened emits creaking sounds and terrified screams. A numbered certificate of authenticity is also included. The set is being released in a limited edition of only 2,000 pieces for the entire world!
