25th anniversary of the issue of the one-pound coin in gold-plated silver
An exclusive set of 14 silver gold plated coins minted by the Royal British Mint in 2008 in pure silver in premium proof quality to mark the 25th anniversary of the first issue of the modern one pound coin issued since 1983.
The coins bear designs by various artists on their reverse, issued in 4 series: "Royal Arms" (Eric Sewell) - royal emblem minted in 1983 and (Derek Gorringe) - royal shield minted in 1988, "Floral Series" (Leslie Durbin) - floral symbols minted in 1984-1987 and 1989-1992, 'Heraldic Series' (Norman Sillman) - heraldic animal and shield symbols minted between 1994-1997 and 1999-2002, 'Bridge Series' (Edwina Ellis) - bridges representing Britain's industrial heritage minted between 2004-2007. The coin designs represent the different parts of the United Kingdom: England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. The obverse shows a traditional portrait of Queen Elizabeth II by Ian Rank-Broadley, the inscription "Elizabeth II.D.G. REG.F.D." the year of issue and the denomination.
The coins are supplied in a luxury gift case along with a certificate of authenticity and illustrated booklet in a limited edition of only 15,000 for the world.
